The Backstory
We are critics, creators, commentators, and curators of all things film and television. From 2009 – 2015, Barrett Goetz managed the film blog, The Movie Mash, as a hobby passion project to share his love and opinions of movies.
After taking some years off to get married and start a family, Barrett returned to the online entertainment scene with The Screen Mash. This time, pivoting to Instagram and Podcasting as primary outlets to share entertainment content with the world, as well as expanding the inclusion of television as a medium for commentary and reviews.
Since launching in 2022, The Screen Mash Instagram content has generated 27 million+ impressions, including 6 videos with 1 million+ views each, and a following that went from 0 to 17K with cinephiles from all over the world. There, you’ll find film and TV reviews, TSM Original memes, infographics, video edits, movie scenes, entertainment news, and podcast clips.
Speaking of podcasts, The Screen Mash Podcast has published 70 episodes, available on Apple Podcasts and Spotify. Featuring Host Barrett Goetz and Producer Brad Lenz. Our topics cover all genres, and range from things like Oscar predictions, to top 10 Pixar movie rankings, to dissecting the filmography of M. Night Shyamalan.
As part of our growth journey, we’ve been lucky to become partners with the Minnesota Film Critics Association, Allied Global Marketing, and Nemer Fieger Marketing to be able to participate in critics screenings of films before they are released. This allows us to share our takes on them before you decide to head to the theater or stream at home.
